HOW TO SAVE MONEY BEING WASTED

HOW TO SAVE MONEY BEING WASTED?                                 Renganathan Narayanan, Bengaluru                                         October 6, 2019 Background: I am a Solar Advocate and a Social Worker.    I had been wasting money on paying for Electricity for over six decades.    I am speaking to you out of my experience of 30 months plus having installed Roof Top Solar Power Generation in my house in Bengaluru.   I am saving about 5K per month which was being spent on electricity by me till March 17, 2017. Experience gained in recent interactions: “Why should not others get the benefit I am getting?” was my thought.      My relatives and friends did not like the idea of my planned attempts to go around house to house – as their views were:    “If something goes wrong, you will be blamed”; “Everyone knows…Why do   you interfere in their personal life?” “What can go wrong? The system is not new.     Russel O

Project No.4 -Producing Gas for cooking

Saw a set up to produce gas for your cooking needs - using food waste.   The set up produces gas and also liquid manure for plants.  May cost around 40 K. approximately. Pressure pump may be used if one wants pressure similar to pressurised gas cylinders. The vendor does complete set up and also pipeline connection to kitchen. Good luck.

Voluntary Project No.3

Making Water from Air.   Saw a machine in operation.  Works fine where humidity is more than 50%. A home model can produce 25 litres a day.   Just connect to an electrical point.   Unlike R.O. machines no water is rejected as water is produced from moisture. Tasted two glasses  Taste is good.   My friend checks pH level etc. with the help of a meter. Estimated cost : 0.5 INR for producing one litre of water (If you are producing electricity for your home or school or other facilities).  If electrical power is used it may cost  3.50 INR per litre. Costs approx. 40 K.    To produce 100 litres the price may be around 2 lakhs and 500 litres a higher price. I am still looking for a solar operated Water Maker.

VOLUNTARY PROJECT NO.2

After buying and trying a number of solar lamps useful for us and also economically handicapped, I have now come across an NGO supplying lamps, irons, tv, fans, etc. operated on solar energy. I bought one powerful lamp for Rs.2700.  I am happy as I can use it as my table lamp.   I have given the product to two needy people and they are happy that their grandchildren can do homework in the nights.  The lamp is made in India; has a five year lithium battery life and has a two year product warranty.   Once charged on level 1 it will give low light for 100 hours.  It has three settings. Can be charged by a solar panel (provided) or through electricity.   Mobile charge facility is also available. Ideal for giving instead of cash bonus to needy domestic help or as wedding/birthday presents so that awareness to use solar energy can improve. Good luck....Renganathan Narayanan

PREFACE

Having  got benefit of Solar Power Generation installation in my house in Bengaluru and freedom from paying monthly bills since March 17, 2017 a thought came to my mind as to why others should not  enjoy the benefits. This thought gave birth to two voluntary projects: 1.   Spread awareness to use solar energy which is available in plenty and in       abundance for us.    Started with an awareness session in a Rotary Club       in Chennai Chennai on January 13, 2019.   More such meetings are       in pipeline.   Currently looking for volunteers who can help me in       in spreading awareness in their own locations. All presentation materials,        facts and figures and backup materials can be provided on line. 2.   Take up voluntary projects by which we all can help others to an extent       possible:  For example, visit a village where people still predominantly use       kerosene oil and encourage them to use solar lights.   In order to avoid giving

FAQs for Project No. 1

UPDATED:   January 31, 2019 THE QUESTIONS PUT TO ME AND MY ANSWERS : Q.   How much will be the cost ? A.    It depends upon your consumption.    For example, if you consume say 150 units of electric power in a month, the TOTAL ONE TIME cost of installing a 1 KVA Solar Power Generation Unit will be within 70 to 75 K INR based on my investment in 2017. Q. What are the prerequisites? A. 220 sq.ft. of shadow free space on your terrace; an electric bill in your name; and a photograph. Q. Will I lose my existing electric connection? A. Not at all.     The power generated by using Solar Energy is Direct Current (D.C).    This is converted into Alternate Current (A.C.) by an Inverter.      Your production is exported to Government and your consumption continues business as usual.     No change is required for any of your existing items like A.C. or Refrigerator etc. Q. How do they keep track of Export and Import? A. Your existing meter which records your
